Dealers can process the transaction with a plate from their inventory as “Passenger” class. After printing the MV-82DEAL, the dealer should cross out the word “Passenger” on the bottom of the MV-82DEAL in the “Reg. Class” box and write in “OMS” (see attached example). The DMV will update the registration class to OMS when the permanent registration is issued. The insurance card for these transactions must be a FOR HIRE insurance certificate. These are FH-1 or FH-1B cards.
If these are courtesy vehicles or loaners, these are not registered as OMS and should be registered as “Passenger” in the dealers name. The insurance cards for these are normal passenger FS-20 cards.
Rentals and loaner/courtesy vehicles should be treated differently.
