- If you are transferring your own plate from a loaner and or a rental to a new loaner or rental you should surrender the plate in question and obtain/issue a new plate to the new vehicle to end the issue moving forward. You should ALWAYS submit the transfer in VERIFI BEFORE processing registration to avoid this issue.
- If you are transferring a consumer plate, then do the following:
- As a best practice, perform a title-only transaction in VERIFI. Then, manually complete an MV-82DEAL and process at the DMV to obtain the permanent registration prior to delivering the vehicle to the consumer.
- As a last resort if you have to issue a TCR due to time constraints or selling on the weekend, then you'll need to issue a secure paper MV-50 and then contact the Help Desk to use the Exception Log. Please note that the DMV monitors the reason(s) for requesting and using the exception log, so this must be a LAST RESORT. To avoid this issue, you should ALWAYS submit the transfer in VERIFI BEFORE processing registration.
