Possible Reason #1:
You are getting the duplicate VIN error because this Vehicle exists in another facility’s Book of Registry (most likely the facility who you bought it from).
You should reach out to the other dealer and ask them to transfer it to your facility. Once they transfer it, you can accept the incoming transfer and the vehicle will automatically be added to your Book of Registry.
Possible Reason #2:
You are likely adding a vehicle to your Book of Registry to log a paper MV-50 but you didn't do this in a timely manner so the vehicle is already in another dealer's Book of Registry.
If that dealer hasn't sold/transferred the vehicle, please contact them to delete it from their Book of Registry so that you may complete your records and finish logging the paper MV-50. They can accept the transfer once you submit it and the vehicle will automatically appear in their Book of Registry under Active Inventory.
Please note:
If you are trying to enter a VIN into your Book of Registry for a deal that was sold/transferred using a paper MV-50, you might not be able to complete this action.
This vehicle does need to be in your Book of Registry for compliance and the cause is the lag between issuing the paper MV-50 and entering the paper MV-50 in VERIFI.
