DMV/VERIFI Tip of the Week, #101
Date: 10/5
ITP orders. Plate Issuance Dealers only
To ensure timely processing of In-transit Permit (ITP) inventory orders, a dealer must submit all documentation on issuance of an ITP within five calendar days to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
VERIFI does not update DMV’s record of the number of ITPs on hand at your dealership. The only way to update those records is to submit the required documentation to DMV for processing (see options below). Failure to properly submit your documentation will result in the record reflecting more ITPs in inventory than you actually have, which will result in a delay filling your ITP orders.
As a reminder, the following documentation should be submitted to DMV upon issuance of an ITP:
- Original MV-82 ITP form
- Copy of In-Transit Permit filled out
- Insurance card or binder
- Copy of driver license
- Copy of transfer document (e-MV-50 or secure paper MV-50) and all applicable transfers showing continuity of ownership
- Copy of title (back & front)
- Original white tear strip with the ITP number on the bottom
County Offices – If you now conduct your Motor Vehicle business in a county-operated DMV Office, you may continue to do so, following the instructions of that office. You must send your paperwork for In-Transit Permits to them within five calendar days after the date the ITP was issued.
State Operated DMV Offices – If you now conduct your Motor Vehicle business in a state operated DMV office, you CANNOT send your In-Transit Permits to that office. Instead, you must deliver all ITP paperwork by mail or courier service within five calendar days of sale to:
NYS DMV
6 Empire State Plaza
Central Dealers Unit, Room 322
Albany, NY 12227
If you have any questions concerning submittal of the required documentation (is the DMV you use a County or a State Office?), or any further questions about this process, please call (518) 473-8889.
