Scenario:
I (a NYS dealer) sold a vehicle to a customer for an out of state transfer. However, the customer has now changed their mind and now wants to register the vehicle in New York. They have not registered the vehicle in the other state. What should I do?
Solution:
According to the NYS DMV, the customer MUST register the vehicle in the other state. After the customer receives registration and ownership documents from the other state they can then go to a NYS DMV issuing office and apply for registration and title in NY. They do not have to return to the NYS dealer.
