MULTI-STAGE VEHICLES
When a multi-stage vehicle is being registered, the customer must submit a MCO or letter from the company that installed the body. The client may present two MCO's for the same vehicle - a chassis MCO and a body MCO.
The chassis MCO is the preferred ownership document. The vehicle identification number on the chassis MCO is to be entered in the VIN field. The vehicle identification number on the MCO for the body is not to be used when processing the registration.
All other information (vehicle description) should be taken from the body MCO. If the weight does not appear on the MCO or letter from the company that installed the body, the vehicle must be taken to a weigh station.
NOTE: If there is no chassis MCO, the body MCO will be acceptable. If the MCO for the body is being used, a notation must be made on the MV-82.
Dealer Sale of a Multi-stage Vehicle
If the Body Type and/or Weight are not included on the MCO or the letter from the company that installed the body, the MV-50 and the MV-82 issued and signed by the dealer will be used as certification for the body type and weight (must reflect the combined weight of cab and chassis and body). The dealer must complete the back of the MV-82 explaining the vehicle modifications.
